About

The workshop is part of an ongoing project initiated by Vincent Fröhlich and Mary Ikoniadou.

The workshop will explore the role of illustrated periodicals in Cold War politics with the aim to identify, and generate approaches that will challenge our understanding of the Cold War era, its cultural productions, heritage and legacies.

The aim of the broader project on The Politics of the Page is to contribute to the recent shift in the scholarship towards decentring a rigid understanding of Cold War cultures and towards mapping transnational and transatlantic narratives of exchanges, re-uses, and cross-overs of material and knowledges. Added to these, is the desire to initiate a discussion on visual, material and all-around cultural expressions that can be found outside, or on the side of dominant official power structures.
